My First Game Release
My First Game Release!
Trunkle's Revenge marks the first game I have completed and then distributed. I know that it isn't the best, and there was more to improve on, but the goal with this game was to learn from the development and to finish it. I am very proud of what I was able to achieve in 2.5 days. I will take what I have learnt to my next project which will hopefully be more polished and have more content. For now, please read some more about the development of the game.
I started by following a tutorial for a first person controller. When I use tutorials, I hate feeling like I'm just copying. I often try to add my own features or change things, as I find this helps to cement the knowledge gained from the tutorial. I added a sprint feature and then decided to try to add a flashlight. This is why the project became a horror game. After this I decided to add a camera bob for immersion. I was tempted to look up a tutorial, but having now learnt about transforming the camera's position, I attempted it on my own. It's a simple and minimal feature, but I am proud to have done it myself. Next I made an interact system. I had to learn about raycasting for this, which was interesting. I then finished up the world using some free assets. I then had to work on Trunkle themself. This is where improvements could be made. Trunkle is far from an intelligent AI hunting the player. They just moveto and lookat the player each frame. Exciting stuff.
